Cornwall Beach Guide

Harlyn Bay Beach

Location:
North Cornwall.
Description:
Harlyn Bay on the North Cornwall coast is a super beach with a huge expanse of sand at low tide and is popular with families and surfers. At low tide the sand extends to Onjohn Cove at the west of the bay. Harlyn Bay is a good starting point for some excellent coast path walking west to Mother Iveys Bay and Trevose Head.
Note, there are reports of hidden cameras at the car park, monitoring arrival and departure times. Charges apply from the moment you enter the car park until you leave so you must buy a ticket that covers the entire duration of your stay. Even if you park for a few minutes to enjoy the view, you must still buy a ticket. Ensure you keep tickets for six months so you can challenge a fine.
Safety:
Signs warn of strong undercurrents, large breaking waves, submerged objects and risk of cliff falls from unstable cliffs. Also do not use inflatables. Do not enter water of east side of the beach. Lifeguards in summer at Harlyn Bay. See Beach Safety Guide.
Access:
The car park is right by the beach, but there is a ridge of sand by the car park making disabled access to the beach difficult. Alternatively a short distance from the car park along the road there is a slipway allowing wheel chair access. Onjohn Cove can be accessed on the beach at low tide and from the coast path at high tide. Note that the steps to the coast path at Harlyn Bay are inaccessible at high tide.
Dogs:
Dogs allowed all year at Harlyn Bay.
