North Cornwall.
Description:
Porthtowan Beach is a large sandy beach popular with surfers. Facilities and parking are close to the beach and there is easy access to the beach.
Safety:
Signs warn of strong undercurrents and risk of falling rocks. Also risk of getting cut off at high tide. Lifeguards in summer at Porthtowan Beach. See Beach Safety Guide.
Access:
The car park is close to Porthtowan Beach. There is level access to the beach.
Dogs:
Dogs are banned on Porthtowan Beach from 15th May to 30th September (10am to 6pm).
Directions:
Porthtowan Beach is 9 miles from Truro and 15 miles from Newquay. Use the A30 from the east or west. At the Chiverton Cross roundabout (about 8 miles from Redruth) turn onto the B3277 the road to St Agnes (signposted to St Agnes). After about 2 miles turn left at a crossroads (signposted to Porthtowan) and follow this road for several miles to Porthtowan. Arriving in Porthtowan, turn right where signposted to Porthtowan and follow this road to the Porthtowan Beach car park.
